Orpington Lodge Hen House – Chicken Coop for 6 Chickens

Hen house capacity? We say it’s a chicken coop for 6 chickens but you could have more based on a few factors to consider:

• What breed are you getting?
• Are you able to let them free range?

We recommend taking a look at the measurements and seeing what you feel comfortable with.  Keep in mind the chickens share nesting boxes and stand side by side on the roosting rods! 

The Orpington Lodge Hen House is solid! You can take comfort in knowing that your hens are safe from harmful predators in this strong high-quality built backyard chicken coop. Tongue and groove construction, quality hardware, designed by a family that has backyard chickens. Easy to clean and maintain with a sliding plastic poop tray (metal over time runs with the strength of chicken poop), a sliding door to secure your hens at night, large nesting boxes with easy access, additional roosting rods etc. This chicken coop for 6 hens is being sold separately in case you want to expand your setup or in case you already have a run extension.

Since they are made of wood and will be outside 24/7, we STRONGLY recommend that you stain, lacquer or paint your wooden chicken coop. The stain applied is a base coat that is not designed to protect your coop long-term from the elements.  Often in transit parts can get dinged or scratched etc. You may need to touch up your coop before staining or painting it! Once set up we recommend anchoring it down, this can be as simple as a stake on each side of the hen house and run area.

Easy Assembly Instructions (Note we have since the video was made added an additional door below each hen house for ease of cleaning)

Dimensions: 28.5”long x 55″wide x 57.5″tall.  

A few additional points to consider:

• Our coop has additional vents providing excellent airflow in the hen house.
• Each panel has four additional diagonal wooden support pieces
• Prop open LOCKING side vent windows (most coops sold online have sliding windows)
• We use a heavy plastic flashing that secures above both nesting box roof panels 
• Each roof panel has a heavy plastic liner to insulate and further weatherproof
• We use strong wire mesh with small holes to keep predators out
• We use heavy-duty hardware
• EVERY piece is labeled and our instructions are thorough and written by us =)
• We sell hen houses and runs separately allowing you to customize and expand your set up
• A lot of coop space: Chicken coop for 6 hens: 55 inches wide 29 inches long, 3 roosting rods, 15 inches of clearance under the hen house etc.

As much as we have tried to predator-proof our chicken coop kits for 6 chickens, you know your area best and you may want to put wire chicken wire or preferably hardware cloth around your coop, or put pavers. You’ll always want to double-check hardware and latches to make sure everything is tight and secure. For larger predators like bears you will want to look at installing an electric fence around the perimeter.
